Place it in the pit, let the flames rise around it and the light does the rest. Minor carbon deposits after burning are normal; brush or vacuum them away lightly if they build up.

At eight and a half inches long and a pound and a half, it is easy to carry between the pit and the shelf and simple to store off-season. In a gas pit, keep the piece at least two to four inches above the gas orifices, never cover the ignition hole and leave the path between the ignition hole and the needle clear. Adult supervision is recommended around children and pets, and let it cool fully before handling.
